Local Elections: Lib Dems make big gains

Local election results in HarboroughLiberal Democrat supporters are celebrating after gaining 9 seats across Harborough, Oadby and Wigston and scoring more votes than any other party.

Across Harborough Constituency, the Liberal Democrats polled 43% of the vote to the Conservatives' 33%.

Labour, the Greens and Independents trailed behind on 13%, 6% and 5% respectively.

Huge Boost

The result is a huge boost to the Liberal Democrats as they look to challenge the Conservative MP. As recently as 2005, the party came within less than 4,000 votes of winning.

In terms of counciillors, the Liberal Demorcats are even further ahead of the opposition. Local residents have elected 36 Liberal Democrat councillors in Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, compared to just 15 for the Conservatives.

Labour, the Greeens and the Brexit Party have no councillors in our area.

Across England, an incredible number of people came together to back the Liberal Democrats in the local elections - and look at the results!

1350 Liberal Democrat Councillors were elected, including 703 Councillor gains.

The party successfully kept their majorites on every Council they were defending and won control of twelve more Councils.

That officially makes this the best ever local election for the Liberal Demorcrats- smashing through the previous record.

Hundreds of people have joined the Liberal Democrats today- the fastest day of membership growth in almost two years.

People voted for us because of our record of working for and listening to local residents. Many voters also wanted to back the party sending a clear message that we want to Remain in the European Union.
